Burnley Football Club has confirmed that forward Lyle Foster is taking a break from the game to receive treatment for a recurrence of mental health issues.
Statement from the Club
"Burnley Football Club can confirm that Lyle Foster is in the care of specialists after the recurrence of a mental health issue," the club said in a statement. "Lyle has been experiencing symptoms over the past few weeks and has been advised by medical professionals to take a break from football to focus on his recovery.
"The club fully supports Lyle's decision and will provide him with all the support he needs during this time. Lyle's health and well-being are our priority and we ask that his privacy is respected at this time."
Foster's Previous History
Foster has a history of mental health issues and has spoken openly about his struggles in the past. In 2020, he was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and took a break from soccer to focus on his recovery.
The striker has returned to action this season and has been in impressive form, scoring four goals in his first 10 appearances for the club. However, he has missed the last two games against Bournemouth and Everton through illness.
Burnley are hopeful that Foster will be able to return to action soon and will continue to support him throughout his recovery process.
