Keir Starmer is all but certain to become the next prime minister of Britain after an exit poll projected that his Labour Party would win Thursday's general election.

The poll, conducted by Ipsos MORI, found that Labour is on course to win 339 seats in the House of Commons, while the Conservative Party is set to win just 231.

If the exit poll is accurate, it would be a major victory for Labour and Starmer, who has been leader of the party since 2020.

The Labour Party has pledged to invest in public services, tackle climate change and create a fairer society.

Starmer has said that his priority will be to "bring the country together" after years of division under Conservative rule.
