Chicago Tornado Watch Expires as Storms Pass

Severe Storms Hit Region, Bringing Wind and Tornado Threat

Tornado Warnings Cover 13 Million People

The entire Chicago area was placed under a tornado watch Monday evening as severe storms barreled toward the region, threatening high winds and the potential for tornadoes. By about 1 am on Tuesday, the tornado watches and warnings that covered 13 million people across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin had expired.

Tornadoes were reported near O'Hare and Midway airports Monday night, while winds of 60 to 105 mph were recorded throughout the region. At least 10 tornadoes were reported in the Chicago area, including twisters near both airports.

As the storms moved through, the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the entire Chicago area Tuesday afternoon, warning of the potential for more tornadoes.
