Morgan Spurlock, the award-winning filmmaker and former CNN series host, has died at the age of 53.

Spurlock was best known for his 2004 documentary "Super Size Me," in which he ate nothing but McDonald's for 30 days. The film sparked a national conversation about the health risks associated with fast food and helped spur changes in the industry.

Spurlock also produced and starred in several other documentaries, including "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold" and "Where in the World Is Osama bin Laden?"

In 2014, Spurlock launched the CNN series "Morgan Spurlock Inside Man," in which he explored issues ranging from cyberbullying to gun violence.
