Hugh Freeze: Auburn's New Head Football Coach

A Successful Past

Hugh Freeze was born on September 27, 1969, in Oxford, Mississippi. He has a long history of success in football, having served as a highly successful high school football coach at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, Tennessee. During his tenure there, he was named Region 8-AA Coach of the Year five times and Associated Press High School Coach of the Year four times.

New Chapter at Auburn

On November 28, 2022, Hugh Freeze was announced as the 31st head football coach in Auburn University's 129-year history. He was tabbed to lead the Tigers after a coaching search by the new athletics director, John Cohen. Freeze replaces Bryan Harsin, who was fired after a disappointing 3-9 season in 2022.

Reforming His Image

Freeze has a well-documented past, having been forced to resign from his previous position at Ole Miss in 2017 over personal conduct issues. However, he is hoping to reform his image at Auburn. He has stated that he has learned from his mistakes and is committed to leading the Tigers with integrity and accountability.
