Hugh Freeze: Auburn's New Head Football Coach

From High School Success to College Stardom

Hugh Freeze, born on September 27, 1969, has taken the reins as Auburn University's 31st head football coach. A native of Mississippi, Freeze brings a wealth of experience and success to the Plains.

Early Career and High School Dominance

Freeze's coaching career began at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, Tennessee. During his tenure there, he led the Saints to unprecedented success, earning five Region 8-AA Coach of the Year awards and four Associated Press High School Coach of the Year honors.

College Success and Controversies

In 2012, Freeze accepted the head coaching position at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Despite early success, his tenure was marred by NCAA violations and personal scandals. He was eventually forced to resign in 2017.

Rebuilding Reputation and Coaching Liberty

After a brief hiatus, Freeze took over as head coach at Liberty University in 2019. He quickly turned around the struggling program, leading the Flames to unprecedented heights. In four seasons, he compiled a 34-15 record and earned two bowl game appearances.

Arrival at Auburn

On November 28, 2022, Hugh Freeze was officially named Auburn's new head football coach. The 53-year-old brings a proven track record of success at both the high school and college levels. He will now attempt to rebuild the Tigers' program and restore them to national prominence.
